Sleep & Back Pain

According to the American Chiropractic Association, 50% of all working Americans report having back pain each year. Back pain is the second most common reason for doctor visits and one of the most common reasons for missing work. More than $50 billion is spent a year on back pain. There are many causes of back pain, such as sports injuries, arthritis, and poor posture are just some. However there are very few “cures” for back pain, but there are treatments.

Aside from Chiropractic treatments and pain medication, the most common treatment for relieving back pain is making sure you have the best mattress. We spend an average of 8.6 hours a day sleeping. To make the most out of those hours to help your back pain, it is essential to get the best mattress to sleep on. There is only one mattress that is approved by the Orthopedic Research Institute, and that is the memory foam mattress – by Bragada.

As a sufferer of back pain, I have used memory foam mattress pads and pillows. They have made a huge difference to my personal back problems. I was in an accident when I was 18 and I broke my back. I’ve had to have surgery to help with the pain. By far, the Tempurpedic-like memory foam mattress made a much bigger difference over a shorter period of time than the surgery or the pain medication. I also had the mattress pads and foam pillows for my sons, and they made a huge difference in their sleep and backs as well.

There are other conditions that require specific styles of beds. If you need to sleep with your feet raised or need to sleep with your head slightly raised you could try an adjustable bed , which are similar to a hospital bed. An Adjustable Bed has a remote with controls on it so that you can adjust the height and incline of your head or feet. With adjustable beds you can find the right position, that is the most comfortable for you.

Sleep is often taken for granted. When we’re busy we put it off until later, thinking that it’s more a waste of time, than an important part of our day. Studies have shown that just the lack of enough sleep can cause more harm to your body than almost anything else. The best way to get a good nights sleep is with a good mattress that supports your body in the proper position.
